I hope I'm not bothering anyone, but I was curious if anyone could tell me about the taverns here, such as which are the best, which are the worst, and so forth. You see, we Hobbits enjoy a fine ale just as much as the Big Folk, and it's been a frightfully long time since I've had one.

I believe they collected whoever they could, and not who would be particularly useful in their fight. Perhaps that is what they meant.

Ehm, we are schooled in our lessons at home by our mother. I have met Elf friends in the woods, yes, but I do not think I danced around their fire. It was a long time ago.
