[The feed turns onto a face that may be familiar to some. Her hair is much shorter, her eyes larger and her cheeks fuller, but it’s unmistakably Yoruichi, even if she only looks about nineteen right now.]

[She looks rattled, but determined not to let her recent arrival get to her all the same. Still, her words are hurried, betraying her obvious distress.]

If there’s anyone out there from the Onmitskidou, or the Gotei 13, or Seireitei...or Rukongai, I guess, can you let know? And if you know why all these humans can see us--

[She stops and pulls in a deep breath, her face firming]

I got an explanation but it doesn’t make sense. Since when are humans even capable-- [the last is a mutter, almost to herself] So just. If this thing’s working and you have some information, it’d be a big help.

[She bites her lower lip, then reaches out to turn off the device]

[Huffs out a long sigh]

Is that all you have to say? Honestly, Kisuke, you--

[pause]

You...look funny.

Well I've spent all week working on the refurbishments to my division Yoruichi-san, I'm afraid I might be a little tuckered out.

[And he's going to have a look a little more carefully.]

You, on the other hand, look remarkably fresh faced.

Refurb--what are you talking about? You don't do anything, you have no reason to be tired.

[Which is unfair of her; he may be lazy, but he does stir himself into action on occasion]

[She looks even more closely at him, and her face goes pale.]

Gods above, what are you wearing?

Well it does take a lot of time to rewire a compound, especially seeing as they will insist on doing it wrong which of course doubles the amount of time it should be taking.

[He sighs and picks at a loose thread on his sleeve.]

I'm wearing a haori of course! Why shouldn't I?

[Her eyes get bigger and bigger, and she looks utterly horrified by the time he finishes]

Stop talking. Stop talking what is wrong with you you know I'm still responsible for you and--

[Breaks off and draws in a breath]

Just shut up. I'm coming to find you. Don't talk to anyone else.

[He opens his mouth to enquire exactly why the very idea of wearing the trappings of his station is so utterly reprehensible and then thinks better of it, makes a zipping motion and raises an oh-so-articulate eyebrow.

She might not be his superior any more but she can still punch harder than anyone he's met, including his new lieutenant.]

[She fumbles to turn the device off again as she'd been shown, and sits a moment to concentrate on finding his spiritual energy. It's not far away, which is good, but it feels...odd. Fuller and deeper than the energy she knew as well as her own.]

[She goes outside, frowning at the overcast, dreary weather. It's the least of her issues, but it's not helping with her mood. She launches into shunpo, unerringly tracking him across the city. He comes into sight after a few minutes, his white haori bright against the surrounding gloom. She comes to a stop a few feet away from him, suddenly unsure as the physical differences become more evident. He's not much taller than she's used to, but he's broader, heavier, the lines of his face more sharply defined.]

[Yoruichi is slighter and more slender than the one he knows, and her movements lack the self-possession she's yet to grow into. Her limbs hold a nervous, almost coltish energy, as though she can barely stand to keep still.]

[The unease she's been laboring under only grows, and she fidgets, shifting from one foot to the other while remaining just out of his reach.]

...Kisuke?

[That is a question, because honestly, she's no longer sure.]

[He turns around and stares at her and honestly, it takes him a good few moments to formulate a response because this is very definitely a considerably younger Yoruichi than the one he's used to dealing with. He performs a double take and then somehow finds his words.]

Well I wasn't quite expecting to find you looking as fresh faced as this.

[And fresh bodied but that is not something he'll be saying out loud as she honestly doesn't look all that much older than Ichigo and his classmates, in fact she looks about the same age as she was when she'd just started out in the covert ops.]

Yoruichi-san, what on earth's going on?

How should I know?!?

[She stomps her foot in frustration, a bad habit that followed her well out of the academy, but something she'd grown out of by the time she became a captain.]

Why are you old and why are you wearing that haori?!?

Why wouldn't I be wearing this haori, it's my haori! You're the one who said I need to act like I belong in it.

[Although this is all very perplexing because she certainly doesn't look old enough to have said that. He takes a step closer and looks at her carefully.]

And for that matter, where is yours?

[Her mouth drops open. His? What was he talking about?]

[For that matter...hers?]

I...what are you talking about? We didn't even graduate a year ago, we can't be captains for ages...

[She trails off, wringing her hands. Because as little sense as this makes, she can't deny the difference in power (not to mention appearance) she senses in the man before her.]

[He's not yet so adept at hiding his expressions that that bit of news doesn't visibly come as a complete shock to him. His eyes go wide, and he takes a step closer, going over the differences in her reiatsu and her appearance and, above all else, the discovery that she's only a year out of the academy when he knows for a fact that they graduated decades earlier. He softens his voice as he explains to the discrepancies to her.]

Yoruichi-san, I believe we may have been abducted from different time points. Our gracious hosts said that they had the ability to do that, and while I questioned their claim at the time maybe they were telling the truth. You see... we've been in the Gotei for considerably longer than a year where I'm from, and we're certainly not on the bottom of the ladder.

[He turns around to display the insignia of his new division to her, printed starkly in black strokes on his crisp white haori.]

I assumed command of the 12th Division from Hikifune-taichou last week after she was promoted to the Zero Squad.

[For all her fluster earlier, Yoruichi isn't stupid, and now that she's calmed down, is better able to absorb what she's being told. The evidence is too overwhelming to deny...especially coming from the one person she trusts more than anyone.]

[It's strange to see him in the haori, but not for the reasons one might think--she'd always known he was capable of so much more than people took him for. It's just odd that he has one and she doesn't (at least not yet); they'd shared every other major milestone in their lives, after all.]

[She steps forward, punching him lightly in the shoulder.]

Of course you did, stupid. I told you you would one day.
