Ever seen an eight-year-old blue antropomorphic hedgehog?

YOU HAVE NOW.

Somehow when no one was looking time caught up with the blue blur, and now there's a pudgy blue puggle zipping around the apartment complex in a patter of heavy footfalls, getting into things, playing feverishly with his smartphone, babbling in excitable kid-speak to everyone he meets no matter how friendly or scary, sliding down the banisters to the staircase, perching on things, and generally doing anything he can to not be BORED.

So, where does he find you?

[Billy knows children are fast and sometimes disruptive. This is why he is carrying his colorful vials of serum prototypes in a carefully sealed, carefully padded, and child-proofed clear case. He thinks he's ready to leave the building and search for his lab partner.]

[Naturally, when Billy trips on some recently-ruffled rug on the second floor, the case flies out of his hand and bounces to a stop near the hedgehog.]

Sorry about that! Did it hit you?

Huh? Nope! I'm 'kay mister! [Little Sonic says, grinning up at the adult. Then he does the last thing Billy could possibly want: he notices the case.]

Oh cool, wass dis?! [Likely before the human can react, Sonic's ploppled down on his little tail and is giving the case's lid a curious tug, trying to open it.]

[oncearanger]

[Billy stares for a moment before he slaps his forehead. Well---that was impossibly fast! He scurries over and crouches next to the case.]

It's medicine. A lot of people are sick around here, and I'm trying to make them better. But it doesn't taste good and it's not ready yet.

[He attempts to gently take it back.]

[mach_n_roll]

[The little puggle listens, sort of, and gives it up when he takes it back with an incredibly animated] 'M not gonna eat it! 'N if it's med'cine, course it don't taste good! Med'cine's supposed to taste bad.

[Spoken with all the absolute authority of an eight-year-old.]

You helpin' people with it? Can I help too?

[Billy hides a smile behind his hand, amused despite himself.]

You can tell me where you came from? I don't think I've seen you here before.

I live on Souff Island! Unkka Chuck takes care a' me. I dunno where he is right now.

[A short glance around, little ears drooping, then he looks back up to him.] Ackshully I dunno where I am eivver. Didn't think 'bout it 'till now...

[oncearanger]

[Billy sighs and picks up the medicine case.]

You're in a city called Exsilium. You're supposed to be here, but you're probably supposed to be bigger. A lot of people have the same problem lately.

And that might mean you need to drink the medicine.

[mach_n_roll]

[He looks at the case again, but now a little warily. Ugh.]

Whaddiya mean, I'm 'sposed to be bigger?

You were probably older a few days ago. People seem to be changing their ages and losing their memories of being older lately.

[He pats the case.]

I know it's scary, I've been through it too. But I'll find a way to fix it!

Tenjou, still physically 8 years old but much older mentally, was getting bored. There was only so much he could do here. He opened his apartment door when a blue blur zoomed by.

Well this was something new.

Curiosity got the best of him and he tries to follow.

"Hey wait up!"

[Little Sonic literally screeches to a halt in the hallway, skidding on the ground and leaving the scent of burnt carpet behind him.]

Huh?

[He looks back, and up because 8-year-old humans are still taller than 8-year-old hedgehogs, and patters back to him.]

--Oh hi! What's your name?

Call me Tenjou. Wow, I never saw anything like you move so fast!

[mach_n_roll]

[HUGE proud grin.] Yup! I'm the fastest hedgehog in the whole wide world! I run so fast the air can't even keep up! Unkka Chuck says that means I gotta slow down 'cuz he thinks I'm gonna get hurt...

But there's no way I'm gonna ever slow down! I'm just gonna get faster an' faster!

I didn't even know hedgehogs could go that fast at all!

Yeah faster is better! I wish I could go fast as you!
