[ Oh look, another person is fumbling with the tablet today. There's a short capture of the grey sky and a glimpse of bright red hair before a "clunk!" sound can be heard and a panicky-- ] Oh no! Did I brea-- [ The video stops there.

Several minutes later, the audio comes on. Whether it's by mistake or choice, who knows. You can still hear the rain coming down heavily and then a young girl's voice speaks up. The same one who was panicking not too long ago. ]

Hello? Is there anyone who can hear this? Hello? I'm-- [ her voice is almost hard to make out in the rain, so she talks louder: ] I don't know how I got up here and I'm stuck! Somebody on the street told me they were gonna come, but it's been forever and it's cold and raining and-- [ She sounds cold, tired and scared. ]

Can somebody come and get me down from the roof? [ A beat. ] Please?


[ ooc: max will be retrieving her! otherwise all network replies will be icly delayed by an hour or so. ]

[ As if on cue, Kate wraps both her arms around Max tightly for extra security and importantly: comfort. It's not her dad, but it'll do fo r now. ]

[ She makes sure Kate's legs are wrapped securely around her waist as well, and then finishes double checking that the rope is secure before starting to carefully make her way down, using windows and edges as much as the rope itself. ]

[ Kate nods a bit. ]

Yeah! [ And she has to force herself not to look down. She's never usually scared of heights, but today's different. She squeezes them shut. ]

[ She can't go as fast as she normally would, both to be carefuller than she would be for just herself and to make sure the speed doesn't scare Kate, but it doesn't take her too long to reach the ground. ]

[ Max will find Kate's been clinging for dear life the entire time until they've reached the ground. Even upon peeking to see if they were really safe now, she's still holding on-- unusually fearful. ]

No... the truth. [ She says firmly, but still rather miserably. ]

That is the truth. [ She just sounds kind of weary as she waves to the surrounding tumble down city. ] I know it's hard to take in, but I'm not lying to you.

[ She takes a deep breath, followed by several panicky ones immediately. Her eyes dart back and forth, like she's trying to find the exit out of this crazy dream. ]

No-- this is definitely a kidnapping! [ Oh god, what if they've come back for her? ] Are you with them?!

[motherofnemesis]

It's not a kidnapping, I promise. I don't even know your name. Who would I be with?

[ How do you reassure a panicking child. ] Do you know the tablet you posted with?

It doesn't matter-- not if you're taking orders from someone! [ The way she accuses Max, it's like she was a disturbing familiarity with a kidnapping. Her face is pale and her palms sweaty, though it's hidden thanks to the rain. ]

Tablet? [ She takes a step back to allow herself room to breathe and to keep a distance from Max in case. ] The... computer thing?

[motherofnemesis]

I don't take orders from people. [ Just kind of shrugs. ] And I don't kidnap children, seriously.

[ But she takes her own step back, hopefully lets Kate calm down a little. ] Yeah, that. Your room number is probably on it.

The place you have to stay. They give everyone a room.

Who does? And who's everyone?

The people who want us here to fight for them. And everyone is all the people they brought in, like me and you and everyone else on the tablet.

People try to keep the younger ones safe, you won't have to fight. It's just what they want people for.

[ rights is a weird concept to her okay ] Yes, I guess, but they've become a little irrelevant.

What do you do? [ She squints. ]

Here? Wait, mostly. [ Hands still easy and open at her sides, a safe distance back. ] There's not a lot else to do.

There aren't people coming to rescue us?

[ Hesitation. ] No. No, it's just us.

[ There aren't any other words for this. She could scream and cry all she wants now, but is it going to change anything? ]
