You know, can't say I really expected to be spending a birthday here. It happens with war, obviously this time we didn't exactly all volunteer.

[sigh, oh well, he rubs at his neck a little]

So, anyone care to join me for a pint? Or company, I don't mind, I could use some talk that isn't about all of.. well, this.

Yeah let's hope not, but some wars last even longer than that so I wouldn't be surprised. [SPEAKING OF FUSSING] How have you been?

I'm fine. I haven't blacked out since. I guess it was just a freak accident.

What's the longest war you know?

It happened suddenly, I'm just not reassured that it was some accident. [something must have triggered it, dehydration, lack of sleep or so forth]

There's some in old history that lasted centuries, the war I had been in lasted one hundred and four months.

[ joooohn noo whyyy. he scratches the back of his neck. ] I'm okay, really. My best friend slept for a year, maybe his lazy rubbed off on me.

... still a long time. Longer than I thought...

Slept for a year? [THAT'S NOT NORMAL] That sounds more like a coma.

It really depends on those in charge when things really end, whether by victory standards or for a means to pull back. With the Intiative going to the effort of bringing us here, and the government nearly finished taking over here-- I doubt pulling back is out of the question for both of them.

[ IT'S NORMAL IN KH WORLD SHHHHH ] A coma?

... so this is probably gonna be a pretty long fight, huh?

[nods] It's a state of unconsciousness, when someone has been asleep for more than six hours and cannot be awakened.

Probably, yeah.

That was Sora, alright. Didn't wake up. Didn't matter what I did.

[ a short sigh. ] ... if it's for the good of the world, I guess staying here's my only option.

[a nod.] We might find a way back eventually.

... yeah. [ small nod. he doesn't want to talk about Sora to just anyone, but... ] That's him.

If it's before this war's ended, I don't want it.

[ John nods for a moment before he continues. ] Did he ever wake up?

..You want to stay for the war?

[ a pause; Riku's eyes turn downcast. yes. he did. at what cost? ... well... ] Yeah, he did.

[ but his eyes flicker back up. ]

It's part of my job, I guess.

[eyes observe closely] That's good then. Worth being relieved over. Being in a coma is never a good thing.

[a slight tilt of his head] Your job to fight for worlds? Sounds like a heavy weight.

I know. [ but how to say it? his face relaxes slightly, but also has a bit of a facade, he smirks lightly. ] But he's always been like that, taking a nap whenever he wanted. I had to do his job for him.

[ ... speaking of that job. ]

It's to protect worlds. If this world needs protection, and Sora's not around, I guess I have to do it.

Voluntary? [as in did his friend wish to take a nap when he had a job to do? and did riku want to do it?]

You don't have to do it alone.

... yeah, both of them. It's [ siiiigh ] complicated.

[ but then, he kind-of smiles. it's slightly bitter, slightly sad. ]

I sort of do. My way, anyway. I'm the only keybearer here. Even if I'm not the chosen one... I still have a job to do.

[john simply nods instead of asking]

Still, it sounds a lot for only you alone to handle. Everyone else may not be keybearers, but you should leave some protecting for us to do too. [quirks a small smile, leave some burden with your friends!]

[ ... he laughs. oh, john. ]

Yeah, okay. I guess I can leave some protecting to you.
