[oh, is it the thirty-first already? the feed clicks and it looks like john is somewhere having himself a drink.]

You know, can't say I really expected to be spending a birthday here. It happens with war, obviously this time we didn't exactly all volunteer.

[sigh, oh well, he rubs at his neck a little]

So, anyone care to join me for a pint? Or company, I don't mind, I could use some talk that isn't about all of.. well, this.

Martin shows up in his best, a navy blue cassock less somber (or gothic, as someone joked) than what he'd been wearing to the clinic for a couple of days now. Didn't seem right to celebrate your colleague's birthday on your uniform. ] Happy birthday, John. [ Martin sits on the stool next to him, flashing a casual smile. ] Can't say I know what half of these drinks are. [ No wine tonight, seems too snooty for the occasion. ] Would ale be out of the question?

[John flashes him a small smile of his own, along with a thanks for the birthday wishes. Before he chuckles a bit at the following statement.]

There's beer, unless you fancy cocktails.

I shouldn't drink anything too hard. [ Martin chuckles nervously, motioning for the bartender to bring him a beer and put what both of them will be drinking for the rest of the night on his tab.

As a priest, Martin isn't in the habit to coerce conversation out of others. Usually, if people had a problem, they would come to him. So he sips his beer in attentive silence, leaving the space between them open for conversation. ]

[John turns the tiny glass in his hand, he drinks from time to time, but hardly much of it. not enough to get him real drunk at least.]

Things have been a bit quiet lately. Well.. sort of. Did you learn anything useful? [this of course he is referring to the recent message by the Initiative. so much for talking about other things..]
