For those of you who may not know me, I’m Nathaniel Howe, one of the newly promoted sergeants of the transport section of the Exsilium city watch. I will do my best to protect the citizens and the transports, and offer my services whenever needed.

However, there is something much more important that I need to discuss. I and my fellow Grey Warden Duncan have just returned from a brief reconnaissance excursion in United Earth territory. We weren’t able to glean very much new information regarding our enemy, but we did procure this:

[Nathaniel holds up a small vial--approximately half the size of a standard test-tube--filled with some unknown liquid]

We found this on one of the citizens of the United Earth, and we have great reason to believe that it contains the drug that is being used to keep the citizens docile, and to prevent them from rising up against their leaders.

Unfortunately, neither Duncan nor myself has been able to determine what exactly is contained in the solution. We are, of course, sharing what we’ve found with the Initiative, but I am also calling on my fellow transports to see if there is anyone who has the knowledge or means to possibly determine what ingredients are in the drug, and to hopefully find an antidote.

If you are interested in helping, please let me know. I’m also willing to answer whatever questions anyone might have about what we learned.

[OOC INFO: So Duncan and Nathaniel have been gone for about a week, scoping out the United Earth territory. The drug they brought back is a very small supply that all citizens are required to carry on them for emergency purposes.

The information provided by our lovely moderators is that no one will be able to determine the chemical make-up of the drug, as it contains futuristic ingredients that none of the transports would be familiar with. BUT! We would love to get some transports involved in trying, either by handwaving or logging or whatever. So yeah, everyone’s free to jump in on this!]

That seemed well enough received. Makes it worth the trouble. Hopefully we'll get something useful from it all.

[He's not mentioning the feeler he put out privately. It's not that he doesn't trust Nate, but they aren't necessarily working toward the same agenda.]

I certainly hope so. Though I'm surprised there are so many here who don't understand how real and dangerous a threat the United Earth is to us.

If they haven't experienced it directly, it can be hard to look at an abstract as a threat. My arrival was a bit of a trial by fire in that regard. Had I not witnessed that bombardment, my skepticism might have remained intact.

I suppose you're right. I've been here for nearly a year now... it's easy to forget that not everyone is as familiar with the goings-on here.

It's not so very different from our situation as Wardens in Thedas. If there hasn't been a Blight for three hundred years, nobody wants to hear there's trouble on the horizon.

We had a Void of a time getting anyone to listen to us. If Loghain had his way, we wouldn't have marshaled forces at Ostagar.

[Not that it went well. He's sure that without the slowing of the spawn, things would have been worse overall. Elissa and Alistair wouldn't have had time to do the things they needed to pull it together.]

I understand the skepticism. That doesn't mean I intend to indulge it entirely.

[Thus the reason for such missions as they had undertaken, to light a fire under people who thought sitting on the fence would get them anything other than killed in the end.]

That's good to hear. Skepticism may be understandable, but we need to do our best to stifle it. The sooner everyone realizes who the true enemy is, the sooner we can bring them down.

Indeed. Or at least not waste time focusing on things that aren't important and don't contribute to our survival here.

It's not just about our survival here, though. It's about our success against the United Earth, as well. That's the only way we'll be able to make it back home.

Perhaps not the only way, but definitely a way. I consider that a very long-term prospect. Don't you?

Seeing as how I've been here for almost a year now, I've no illusions that it will be a long journey. If we don't fight as hard as we can, though, there may not be a Thedas to go back to. Not if our enemy strips the world of all its resources.
