Video feed shows the view of a narrow court room from the witness stand. The judge's seat can be seen in all its Baroque glory. There's a space for a crest on the wall behind it, but nothing's carved there at the moment.

Solid wooden desks flank the platform that holds the judges seat: the defense's bench to the left and the prosecutor's bench to the right. Placed directly in front of each other, this ensures that the opposing parties can confront each other face to face. The desks are large enough to conceal key evidence to be presented at crucial moments, and sturdy enough to withstand abuse such as fist slamming, whipping and scalding coffee spills.

The seats for the audience are located behind the defense's and prosecutor's benches, much like the seats in a theater. Any loud side comment, beneficial or otherwise, from anyone in the audience will most likely reach the ears of the judge and attorneys. It almost seems like audience participation in court proceedings was encouraged.

To top off the theatrical atmosphere of this courtroom, a young woman with a whip stands at the center of it all. ]

A few months ago, someone made a boast, and it will continue to be a boast until that boast is fulfilled - that he will establish a judiciary system in Exsilium. Whether or not he follows through with his word remains to be seen, but that does not mean that I should lag behind. I am, after all, not just a prosecutor but also a von Karma. And we von Karmas are always perfectly prepared. [ Crazy prepared, some might even say. But not always. Still, she's fully confident that Edgeworth won't let her down with this one, even if she will never say that outright. ]

I could make a speech on the benefits of having a functional judiciary, the difficulties involved with procuring this noble establishment, its features, the possibilities... but let's keep this simple, shall we?

[ With a crack from her whip, the ceiling parts to make way for two flatscreen monitors. A corresponding holographic screens appear beside the two attorneys' benches. The monitors and screens show an array of stock evidence data: the obviously fake autopsy report of one "John Doe" who died of excessive foolishness, a bullet, a chalk outline and the like. ]

We have here the best in evidence display this world has to offer. It's programmed to respond to basic sound and motion cues, and can be programmed to follow the specific cues associated with the people involved in the trial process. In this case, that would be me and my whip.

[ She snaps her fingers, sending the prosecutor's holographic screen flying towards her. ]

Much like our current communication devices, these holographs are touch sensitive. [ Touching the bullet on the screen, the image zooms in until it takes up most of the space. Swiping her finger on it shows the bullet in different angles. She smiles, satisfied by its performance. ] As long as we have enough data, we will be able to investigate every nook and cranny of all evidence declared prior to the trial. And in case you were wondering, yes, it has all the usual amenities you would expect from a court of law. [ With a dismissive wave of her hand, the screen flies back to its original position. ]

The board is set. We now have the venue to run a proper trial in Exsilium. Of course, you're free to choose a dingy, dilapidated gym instead, but why would you?

[ Arms outstretched, she ends her speech with a bow. ]

Happy Holidays, Exsilium.

A bit excessive, but I suppose that will make people feel more assured everything is handled fairly. However before anything can be a done proper laws are needed and a judge to understand them.

I am doubtful it will be so easy. However, I would like to at least settle the matter of an appropriate judge.

That I am. Before arriving here it was my sole duty.

You are free to interview me and verify my capability. I did not suggest you should do otherwise. However, you will find that there is no other individual who is capable of being as neutral as I. You would be lucky to have a Yama preside over your court.

A Yama is a judge of hell, we judge the souls of the dead and decide on where they go in the afterlife. We are neutral and unbiased.

The souls are sent to a place called Higan, which is where the court lies. When they enter the court that is when their judgement begins. The processes is rather simple, I look through the deeds they committed while alive, tally up both good and bad, and then weigh them against each other. Those who have few good deeds go to Hell where they are punished, those with more good deeds either get reincarnated or go off to Heaven.

Of course to go to Heaven it takes quite a lot of reincarnation cycles.

One I don't kill people, two I always judge people before taking any action.
