For those of you who may have noticed the petting zoo that's shown up in the courtyard overnight, a word of caution:

In a city which is not overflowing in pet stores, when something claims to be offering animals for adoption with no one checking for owner suitability, and all of the animals offered coming from local wildlife, you should probably think three times before even touching what's penned up out there.

Wild animals are meant to be wild. Acting as tame as they are with no keepers in evidence is suspicious when any keeper who spends the time necessary to properly socialize an animal to be okay with the loud, strange ways people move should be putting potential adopters through the grinder.

Given what I've heard up to this point, yes, it's weird. People are free to make their own decisions, but stopping to think about why this is odd can only help.

most of the animals i've seen here are freaks, they look different. birds dont make noise or nothin. i got a look at those rabbits and they look ok

The creatures of my world are highly intelligent and display a great level of cognitive awareness
as well as communication skills
so I admit
I'm a bit confused as to how to approach these animals.
I was going to ask my friend if she would like to play with them
but now I'm not so sure.
They seem harmless enough but I don't want to risk anything.

You might be amazed at the time you can find if you really need it. The answer around here is "only those with the luxury to afford one." I haven't seen dogs or cats in general, so that rules out the largest domestic force along with the easiest sort of mutual benefit companionship.

If you're hungry, I'd rather take you out to eat. Not to say the kitchens people have around here are guaranteed clean, but the meat's likely to be good, and you're honestly paying for it. Anything that comes this easy has a hidden cost. Not necessarily a bad one, but... I'm choosing to be a pessimist over an optimist right now.

Planning to skip on over to the UE to check up on general food resources? I hear gardens and small farms are all the rage here in Exsilium. Imports seem to keep things afloat, too.

Still, rabbits would be a decent source of sustainable meat, if people wanted. Not so much the greatest for pet-keeping.

I get a feeling it's largely grown and tended in the other part of this city. We're in the larger of two circles of civilization. They might be running free range poultry and cattle out of the other section, in what they call the... outlands? Badlands?
