[it's a minute or so of a melody hummed, something thoughtful, simple. it persists even when she finds what she wants – that there video function, the telltale thing she knows for sure is her window to everyone else floating around with these things.

far too quiet for her, and quiet only a moment longer before she speaks up:]

It's pretty. Does it mean something?

[a single nod.] It is for...big sound. Large sound.

Like "boom"?

[allsongs]

Boom–? [there's a little bit of amusement in her tone as she squints her eyes at him.

[hostage]

That's a big sound.

[allsongs]

It is Simmaeri.

[hostage]

Yup. Simmaeri. Boom. Like thunder.

[allsongs]

Thunder. [behind a thin-lipped smile, her tongue presses against the backs of her front teeth, about to repeat the th sound again.

instead:] All a same meaning, Jesse? Simmaeri. Boom. Thunder.

[hostage]

Yeah. Thunder's the sound that lightning makes. You know what lightning is?

[allsongs]

I know light. Bright. Sun. Yes?

[hostage]

Lightning. Like during a storm. The flashes, and then -

[He actually does a pretty good impression of thundercrack, hand gestures and all.]

[allsongs]
