Yes. The time when elves were powerful and elegant as the ones I've seen from other worlds - is all but forgotten by time. There are few records, only legend.

But I assure you, many elves are still proud people. And of course I am a particularly gorgeous specimen, quite liked for my beautiful face and body.

I do not know. Such knowledge is vague, kept in legends and stories. Much of our history has been lost, crumbled and faded through time or blatantly destroyed. Some of my kind are still born with magic - but it is said back then that all knew the ways to it, and could pull power from the Fade at will. According to the tales, it was contact with the short-lived worldly humans that dragged my people out of their immortality. We traded with them and maintained peaceful relations, and their mortality spread like a plague. The humans then learned ways to replicate our magic, perverted the traditional ways in order to make themselves powerful, with blood magic and horrible rituals, and destroyed our greatest city and our kingdom piece by piece with the knowledge they'd stolen.

[Zevran, naturally, sounds more than a bit bitter. But it is not the sort of bitterness of the disenfranchised, but rather the cynical. Of course this is what happened. It is what people - especially humans, it seems - do.]

The lore of the People maintains our gods could not help us against the Imperium because the Dread Wolf sealed them away in the Heavens, where they could no longer walk with us. Perhaps it is because of they that we lost our power, or because human greed was simply stronger. Humans tend to say that we were never actually that powerful at all, that it is only a story and that our verbal history is nothing but fairytale and arrogance.

But it is all that we have to go on, since they have nearly succeeded in destroying all that we are. [Again, it is not with a loathing that he goes about this. There is no hidden desire of revenge in it, just a simple statement of a very ugly fact he's lived with his entire life.]

[Zevran gives a sudden, sincere laugh. It feels good to be understood without question by a stranger to the situation. Humans here have told him elves do not exist, and the ones from his own world maybe aware and never truly understand.] Aha! Yes, it is quite so! To their credit, they made thing quite good for themselves until they began fighting with each other, too. Even so, it is usually better to be the poorest human than it is to be an elf, at least in the cities.
