So Vanadi's hosting the big Masquerade Ball later this month, and that got me to thinking...
( Collette starts ticking things off on her fingers. )
There's no age limit, everyone's going to be wearing a mask and in costume, there's no supervision, and one of the most common questions out of new people showing up here is "where's the nearest bar," so it'll also have alcohol. Lots of it.
( Collette leans forward, chin resting on her interlaced hands, elbows on the table. She grins. )
This is so much better than Prom would ever be.

He's dangerous, yes. Manipulative. I'm not always better, but he- He doesn't value life.

The people I manipulated.. They were bad people. Worse than Adam. One tried to kill me and another- Danko. He faked my death, but held it over my head. Threatened to kill me if I stepped out of line.

( Lying to yourself is easier than being honest, after all, but you had to decide what you were doing. Even if it was perpetuating a lie.
What he's talking about is worrying, on another hand. )
How'd you end up around people like them?

I couldn't escape. Every time I tried, someone chased me, came after me. Just for what I was. I've spent the last few years trying to escape them.
