So Vanadi's hosting the big Masquerade Ball later this month, and that got me to thinking...

( Collette starts ticking things off on her fingers. )

There's no age limit, everyone's going to be wearing a mask and in costume, there's no supervision, and one of the most common questions out of new people showing up here is "where's the nearest bar," so it'll also have alcohol. Lots of it.

( Collette leans forward, chin resting on her interlaced hands, elbows on the table. She grins. )

This is so much better than Prom would ever be.

Not a lot. For us fighting is a basic thing that I think we all know how to do. But we have to improve after. There's other skills we awaken knowing how to do, aside from basic things. Some of us are excellent with building or sewing or cooking.

[A pause as she realises she's rambling a bit.] Me? I am a very good cook. Hence why I've never sewn.

( It's such an interesting, weird, and different way of doing things, Collette doesn't even know how to really begin understanding. But at the end, she laughs. )

I wish I was any good as a cook. Though now I've got a Master Baker teaching me about cookies, and I more or less manage to cook pasta and rice without burning things now!

Cookies are pretty easy. As are most pasties...and sweets. [She frowns.] It's everything else I have trouble with.

I wonder why that is. It's not easy to learn about, but I think if we try long enough we're bound not to get worse!

[She shrugs.] I haven't the faintest. But it won't stop me from trying. I want to be an excellent chef.

Consider me a willing taste-tester for anything you end up making. I have a feeling you're going to be an excellent chef sooner than you think!

[A beat.] Oh! Is there anything you're allergic to? I would hate to make something that could make you sick.

Hmm? No, not really! Or if there is I haven't found out about it yet, and I should be fine even if I suddenly find myself having a reaction. I've got an ace up my sleeve for handling those kinds of situations!
