I'm having difficulty deciding which one I find more insufferable between The Initiative and the United Earth.

I suppose, if you're that curious. It's more important that we focus right now on more pressing matters, like the enemy that would have us dead. So long as the Initiative is of use to us, there's no need to refuse aid from them.

What aid they can manage to give us without also worsening this mess we all remain a part of.

For one thing, they kept us alive during the bombing. Their rations may not have been much, but in a situation like that - and considering we had none of our own - things like that make the difference between surviving and not.
