—wanted was to know if I had found North yet! [ oh a face!! big dark eyes, huge scowl, and like the biggest, fluffiest hooded jacket ever. ] They were very rude and I would not have minded hurting them, or maybe I would kill them, but they ran away, and now my back hurts. Raafa says people who run away are cowards, and not worth anything. I do not want to see any of them again.

[ a pause, one heavy, frustrated sigh, and then she looks a little bit less pissed. it's good to have that out of her system. no onto what really matters, in the middle of this violent occupation. ]

[he squints, like he's not at all sure if that's the right word, and his head tilts a little out of frame as he flips through a book]

Ahh. It is... [Taxes are not something dragons do. There are simply not nearly enough of them to have anything even approaching a government instead of an extended web of personal relationships.]

Tax is a... [he visibly waggles his fingers as he wrestles with the vocabulary] giving to rulers, who keep the army.

Oh. [ nope there's just not much comprehension in this look here. apparently the words "rulers" and "army" never came up in her language lessons so far. ]

[he ruffles his fingers through his hair] It is, hard... [he waggles his fingers again, squinting, like he doesn't have the vocabulary for it. finally, his cheeks puff up a little as he realizes it would take much too long to try and explain it]

[he nods a little, thinking about it] But it is... all Galaté peoples can a little read and write.

Why? Talking is very much faster.

But you can not put in a box talking to see later.

Why would you want to put talking in a box?

So you can open it again in a year, or ten years, or a hundred years and have what was exactly put there.

...Oh. [ That... actually does kind of make sense, and she looks a little grudgingly accepting. ]

Or... in mind of a farmer, who is knowing every harvest for years and years, and now is always knowing if anything happens wrong by seeing it together.
