I'd like to inform everyone of a car accident that Adam Jensen and I found at [ SOME OUT OF THE WAY STREET ]. If anyone who needs to go that way could find a detour, that would be for the best. If you can't, then be sure to be careful - perhaps go with a friend, if you must at all. It seems that our - suspect has long left the area, but it's always wise to exercise caution, especially since the wreckage hasn't been cleaned as of yet. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what might have caused this, but if we find anything else out, I'll make sure you all are informed.

For one thing, it hasn't been cleaned up yet, and I don't know when it will be - the debris and nature of the sight alone should be enough to be a hazard to pedestrians.

[ For another he doesn't want to cause panic by publicly announcing "it kind of looks like a monster ripped this car in half" - but he won't hide that either, to anyone wondering. ]

But car accidents happen. [ this guy should know... he's nearly caused a few of 'em, here. ] Why bother warning the transports about this one, in particular?

Then it should be clear that this isn't an ordinary case. [ He is totally going to win Most Likable Person awards. ] I can tell you what I know, if you want, but I'd prefer not to speculate until we have more information.

Whatever happened, the car was destroyed and its driver killed. It's possible that there was some sort of collision, but it would've taken a very strong force to leave the car in the state it's in, and there's nothing in the vicinity that could have caused that kind of damage. There's also some minor destruction in the peripheral area, though it doesn't look to be related to the car accident itself. No one living on that street was outside at the time or saw what happened.

Hmm.

What kind of damage, exactly? To the car, and the driver. And to the area around it.

[ let's keep this safely away from, say, little girls' eyes. ]

The car has been all but torn into two. The force was likely either directed from behind or directly in front of it, causing both the tear and the injury sustained by the driver. He was... [ pause. there has to be a delicate way to put this. ] ...pierced through the midsection in such a way that lines up with the car damage.

As for the surrounding area, I noticed that some of the lampposts were clearly bent or broken, and there's been damage to someone's roof as well.

[ silence from this end, for a while. ]

I see.

And you are still investigating this? What are your plans?

Yes. There's what appears to be a trail that might've been left by whoever caused this, so we'll see how far it goes, at least.

And what will you do if you find... whoever may be at the end of that trail?

Truthfully, I don't expect to. However, if we do, I'd want to apprehend him or her quietly, if possible.

[ The thing that bothers him is that either whatever did this has some kind of appetite for destruction (but not attention, not unless it could've known Adam or someone else would be going that way) or it might just be severely lacking in control - he's seen more than enough budding NEXTs, afraid of their own abilities and everyone else, that the scene is almost a little familiar. One of his first cases as a Hero was a similar situation, after all. ]

[ cryptic, and slightly threatening. bariyan doesn't know how much he can trust this one, or how much he ought to say. ]

[ If...this guy is worried about vigilanteism? But whatever he can leave it at that. ]

It wouldn't be very becoming for someone of my profession, anyway.

As an investigator? No, I suppose not.

Is duty the only thing tying you to this case?

[ "Investigator" - well, close enough. ]

Duty? [ A bit, but it's closer to instinct. He may only have been a Hero for a couple of years, but he'd been preparing for it for much longer - and at this point it might be all he's good for. ] I wouldn't call it that. If there's something killing people, I'd naturally want to put a stop to it.

Of course. [ That's fair. But Bariyan was only checking to make sure there was no personal stake in this. Personal could become dangerous, fairly quickly. Barnaby's reason was better. ]
