[A pause, and Sam's voice sounds a little more amused as he continues.]

Or what about people named after their grandmothers? I know at least one.

I think this one took the prize for it. Half that stuff wouldn't be allowed anymore.

They say that all names have a very specific meaning for the person, that it tells much about them. [Smiles.] I do like the idea of that.

A lot of it was outlawed then, but people did it anyway. Sort of a form of protest.

I'm not sure mine says much about anything, really. Except that I was named after my grandfather.

Protest means they want to change things, is that right? They were protesting the laws? [Sounds kind of familiar.]

He must have done something great, to have someone named after him!

I'm not sure how much they wanted to change it. I think it was more about showing that they didn't agree with what was considered socially acceptable. Like...clothes.

[Sam grins, but then it softens at the mention of his grandfather.]

Yeah, I think so. I never got a chance to meet him.

Like clothes. I wouldn't say that's too terrible, but I wouldn't want to make a formal statement about it.
