[ The feed turns on. Leliana looks closely at the notebook and waves her hand in front of the video feed. It mirrors her movements. There are other people in other windows and they are all watching her! She wonders if this is what the other side of the mirror feels like. ]

This… communication device is so interesting! Is it some sort of, um, ancient magic? I don’t know much about those, I am afraid, but it is certainly useful, no?

This place is really grand. I don’t think I have ever been anywhere like here. Not in Ferelden. Not in Orlais. Not in Orzammar. I am sure these walls and windows have a lot of stories to tell, and these grand spaces have a lot of adventure to uncover. [She giggles.] I am going to find out, soon enough.

I still can’t believe I’m here! I can’t tell if I’m dead or if I’m dreaming. I hope nobody pinches me awake soon, at least.

The place where you came from must be wonderful! From where I came from, it took days to send messages from far away places and, even then, the messengers are in danger of getting eaten by wolves and attacked by darkspawn.

Our messengers have a great deal less to worry about, and less work to do since we can just use things like this for our more pressing correspondence.

Very well. Along with computers, we have cars, or machines you can drive to take you wherever you want - and they're much faster and more reliable than going on foot or horseback. Ships have also become motorized, making sailing across oceans much easier than it used to be, and people have also taken to the skies.

We also have televisions, which have screens like the one on your computer, but can show you pre-recorded programs - stories - and even ones as they're happening, in real time.

Stories? You mean someone is narrating them or... they're actually happening, like in a play?

Either can be the case, but more often things like plays, yes.

If I could have something like that, I would never leave my home, you see. [ Happy giggle. ] I love stories. I love telling stories, reading stories and, most of all, witnessing stories unfold.

You may get a chance to do that here, at least. [ He wouldn't really know, not bothering with nonessentials but. ] I doubt it'd be much, but it'd be better than nothing.

Yes, there are. I can't speak for the programs available here, but there are stores where you can find movies - pre-filmed, complete stories.

Instruments have been perfected, and in some cases also enhanced with technology over time, but by and large should be fairly recognizable. However, there have been many strides in making them more easily accessible in pre-recorded forms.

Pre-recorded? You mean... you can play music anywhere?

Yes, that's right.

But what of the bards and minstrels?

They still play, of course. They benefit from these recordings, because their music can be sent all over the world and played more often and in more places than they could have performed live.
