[Clearing her throat, she tries and fails to force the scowl off her face] My name's Lena. I need to be - not here. Look, I'm grateful for the rescue, but it's a little too late. I made a deal, and I have six months - I have six months. None of which I can afford to waste here.

You people need to stop making other people fight your battles for you and learn to stand on your own two feet. It's not my job to hold your hand into a better future.

[ her shift in attitude, he notices - but he doesn't have any reason to think she's lying, given how he knows zero about her world. the most he suspects is that she's not telling him everything, but he didn't expect her to anyway. the places she's naming sound oddly french, but as far as he knows they aren't doing magic over there either.

but the fact that she's suddenly gone all medieval times - that gets a reaction. it distracts him from responding to her theory on california's lack of magic, which he finds weirdly plausible considering everything he's seen the past few months. ]

Blacksmith? Seriously? Do you know how to make like.. swords and armor? [ spoiler alert, totally going to geek out about meeting a blacksmith with stiles later. ]

[Her eyebrows raise slightly] Is that...unusual in your world? [Now that they're no longer talking about her outburst - and that things have swung around to her job - she's nowhere near as abrasive]

I know the theory. [There's a faint cough. She tried forging a sword a few weeks ago and failed miserably] There's not much call for either of those things in a farming village, and I came late to the apprenticeship. [She rolls her eyes] I can make a fantastic nail, though. [She is very tired of making nails :'D]

[ wow, a blacksmith chick. that's cool, right? that's pretty cool. he grins at her last comment, but there's a sympathetic edge to it. ]

Well, I guess it's a good thing, right? Not needing swords and armor. Would probably suck a lot harder if those were in high demand.

[She turns her face away for a moment, not liking the reminder that her actions could possibly lead to a civil war back in her world] Orandin has always been a peaceful kingdom. But the real reason is that swords and armour are expensive. Commoners have better things to spend their money on, when they make it.
