I have not been in this time for very long but I've been feeling out of place these past few weeks, not simply because of my surroundings but because of the technology here. I'm curious of the more advanced weaponry that people use now. More importantly, that there are so many who know how to use them with relative ease.

[As a commander, it makes her feel disadvantaged, especially since most of these weapons are so much more powerful than a simple sword and shield.]

If anyone would be willing, I would like to learn how to use these weapons or, better yet, to be able to defend myself from them. Should one of these missions send me to a time after my own, I'd be in quite a bit of trouble. [She smiles.] I can't offer anything in return but my gratitude, though I can teach you swordplay, if you would like. Or, if you would prefer, I know how to make traps and poultices.

[Her smile turns into a full-fledged smirk.]

And for those who are ambitious, I could show you how to steal valuables off of a passerby without them ever noticing they're missing their purse.

I would like for us to meet and discuss things. We've all done a good job of outright avoiding one another since the training module and I think it's time we get down to business. There are things I'd like to discuss with all of you.

[And though her tone is light, her gaze is hard.]

We'd need a meeting place, of course, and it shouldn't be a terribly long gathering...but we've been putting this off for far too long.

Not necessarily, no. But we need to discuss how much about the Wardens people should be exposing to strangers, for one.

But is discussing things here really a good idea? The others dragged here aren't exactly our only audience to worry about. Where are we even having the meeting?

I would hope. But we need to discuss it anyway.

There's fewer places to go to. Nathaniel Howe has volunteered his apartment and that's a secure enough hold for us to have our meeting.

But it's still in an apartment given to us. Those Initiative bastards are probably able to tell our every move while we're in there. We could at least try to get some distance from this place and meet outside of the hold.

Not that I'm jumping for joy at the thought of a Warden meeting, but unless we want to go on a commemorative hike into the urban wilderness, we could do much worse than meet at my place. There used to be a fellow called Osprey here. He ... did some things. Helped me set up for the first mage meeting. Sort of a mage himself, in a technological sort of way.

Unless the Initiative's willing to kill their own high-ranking officials just to make someone's transport affiliation look convincing, it's a sure thing Osprey wasn't working for the Initiative.

On the other hand, it's possible they've been in to stick things in the walls over that last little absence we had. The one where Nathaniel and I got sent back in time to have a mudbath with some idealistic young people. But if someone's spying on us with some gadget or other, they'll already have heard all sorts of things about Grey Wardens just from overhearing what we talk about at home.

They'll also have a fantastic recipe for marshmallow squares.

I'm starting to like the idea of a hike, though. We could find a really mucky pasture and then scatter some dog shit around, and pretend we're back home in Ferelden.

And what if they don't know everything do we really want to risk things further? We don't know what we're dealing with here. A little hike for the sake of some extra privacy isn't going to hurt.

I'm a skilled rogue who trusts very few people -- believe me when I say there is nothing within our apartment that shouldn't be. As far as tracking us within the apartment, the only thing they would be able to tell is who is present. Hardly something they'd take notice of, given that we're all from the same world.

I'd happily skip the meeting altogether. I'm merely noting that the proposed location isn't as deplorable as you're letting on.

So you'll attend and supervise all of the mage meetings but not anything for the Wardens?

And it's not an argument, I'm stating a fact that everyone else seems to be ignorant of. Just because we can hope they don't see us or watch us doesn't mean they aren't.

Yes, mage meetings. Funny, that. You'll attend all of the mage meetings in my flat, but the prospect of a Warden meeting there makes you break out in hives?

No one's ignorant of our situation here. Frankly, it's offensive that you'd claim we are.

There's no life-or-death involved in those meetings. Or even secrecy about it! You've made certain of that.

Look, I already said I would go and the location is fine. So what more are you trying to discuss?

Talk Cousland into some other place, then. Or call a meeting yourself, and schedule it wherever you blighted well please. But tell us again that we're all ignorant of what's going on around us, and I'll tell you just what you can do with that opinion.

She made a good point, though I stand by what I said. Your place will be safer until we find a more suitable place if the need arises for this to happen again.

If her point were all that good, we wouldn't be using this network to say anything to one another in the first place.

The problem is this: whatever we do here, wherever we are, there is a very good chance we're being watched, if not tracked in some other way. We have to live with that and around it. As we're doing right now, using the Initiative's own tools to talk to one another about the blighted Initiative.

If Fiona's point carries any real weight, we ought to chuck these communicators into the river. We also ought to stop speaking aloud to one another, especially at home. Best not to write, either, since we might be watched. Interpretive dance is the only solution.

I won't be resorting to interpretive dance, thank you very much. When the rest of us are dragged off and branded, or executed, you and Nathaniel can carry off into the sunset and say "I told you so."

But you're right. We'll just need to make do with what we have to work with while being aware that we can't be as discreet as we'd wish.
