[The feed turns on to a blue-haired woman looking critically into the netbook. Her head tilts in a thoughtful gesture. She's working it correctly, right?
A second later and she's clearing her throat with a small noise, staring at the screen squarely, eyebrows knit, jaw set, back straight.

She really looks like she could use some coffee.]

So we've all been roped into a war. I haven't heard anything on how far into battle the rest of you have gotten, but I would really appreciate any information you can spare.

[A big sigh here, and her hand massages her temples for a moment. MAN but does she look pissed all of the sudden.] I can't believe these people would stoop to kidnapping children and civilians, nevermind the entire scheme is disgusting to begin with.

Look. My name is Aileen Kimbler, I'm a doctor. I'm not a solider, and regardless of what this Initiative wants I’ll have no hand in the death of anyone here unless it’s in the interest of preventing it. I don't believe in war, but I'm good at my job for a reason.
If there's a hospital or infirmary of some sort, I'll do everything I can to help out there.

[Looks like she managed to calm down a bit halfway through all that, and her expression shifts to something gentle and worried.]

Please, don't hesitate to contact me if you're hurt.

[She reaches for the off button, but stops. Frowning and glancing left and right before pulling the netbook a little closer. The corner of her mouth perks up as she fights a smile, her nose crinkles and she casually brushes a piece of hair into view, drawing attention to it.] And um, just curious, but... How many of you believe in magic?

If so, I'm happy to say: You're not alone.

You will find that not only do many of us believe in magic, but practice it. [ a small smile! ] As well, there is an established clinic here. Your medicinal aid would be welcome.

I think you have the right idea. I wont kill people, especially not because someone told me to.

[He'll sigh a bit, but looks generally calm.]

As for magic, sure. I can cast a few spells myself.

Magic forms the very basis of my body, so I dare say I believe in it, yes.

Your hair! Quick question -- natural or dyed?

[ Looks like some of the teenagers have the usual skewed priorities -- and that's without knowing necessarily that Collette's paraplegic on top of it. Though it's hard to make out what sort of chair she's sitting in, what with her netbook propped on a table and her leaning forward on her elbows to look at the computer monitor, the handles to her chair are hard to make out in the background. ]

As far as magic, I believe. There's a whole group of people here who use magic! And some technology is almost like magic. I guess it depends where you want to draw the line.

Disgusting AND dangerous, but these people are desperate. The real infuriating part of the whole damn thing is that they seem to think THEIR world's cause is somehow greater than ours.

[The face on the other end looks similarly displaced in combat; in fact he looks more like a geography teacher than a soldier... The angle of view in the background changes as he sits forward, netbook clasped in his hand.]

For what it's worth, I doubt you'll be on missions if you don't want to be; they could probably use your talents as a doctor far more than just another soldier. But I imagine they'll want to gear you up with one of those sentient weapons anyway, just in case all hell breaks loose.

[She stares at him shocked for a moment, but then returns his smile in spades.] I'm glad, where I'm from you have to be careful who you mention it to.

As for the clinic, that's wonderful! Do you happen to know where I can find it? I'm sorry to say I haven't figure my way around yet.

I'm happy to hear it. Just because they're forcing us into battle doesn't mean we're killers. They can't actually expect us all to mindlessly do as they say.

[She lets out a small breathe, sounding all too relieved.] Good news to know I'm not the only magic user here, then.

You do not have to kill people. You will find that a number of the transports are of a more peaceful type here. I for one would rather be pouring drinks and telling tall tales then killing others.

[Her eyes go wide with alarm for a moment and she fumbles a bit before switching to private. She eyes him wearily, but leans closer to the netbook.]

You're- Riight... So you're body runs on magic as well? Forgive me, but, the flows run in very strict alignments back home. Are you Seelie or Unseelie?

[oh. She's used to this reaction.]

Ah, no real reason in particular. It's as good a conversation starter as any, right? I figure its a good idea to get to know the other transports and magic's a simple topic. [HAHAha no its not.]

[A warm laugh.]

There's that many who use magic? That's a real relief. Still... it's going to take some adjusting to get used to it being such an open topic. Where I'm from it's not exactly a celebrated talent.

[he's not bothered by the wariness. Par for the course, really. He doesn't at all understand the question, though.]

I'm afraid that I don't follow.

War is a always disgusting and dangerous. [Said with no amount of humor.] It's blind selfishness, is what it is. It's obvious they couldn't care less how many of us die; probably just force a few more into impressment to defend their island. [Sigh.]

That's comforting to know I guess. But I would worry too much about the others if I didn't go. ...as for that weapon, they pestered me enough into picking up a gun. I plan to put the thing someplace safe and never touch it again.

Did they force a weapon on you as well?

From everyone I've talked to so far that sounds like the general attitude. It's always good news when everyone isn't jumping to bloodshed; that sort of thing has never made sense to me. [A small shake of the head.]

Have you been here long?

[She frowns, worrying her lip as she thinks this over. At the very least she owes him an explanation.]

I... guess I can't really expect things to work the same if we're all form different worlds...

What I mean is- Are you dead? [Whoops. Well, that went out the window.]

[Well, this woman got right to the point! He appreciates it, really.]

They're expecting us to do more than just defend it. They want us to re-write history.

I made a point to bring my own, although it's technically it's not a weapon. And I may need it as much for the other Transports as the UE if all this crap comes to a head, which it will if those guys up in the Hold don't start manning up soon. I mean this sincerely: keep that gun on you, doctor. Learn to use it. Pacifism is one thing, but throwing away a means to defend yourself is another.

It's not that hard to tell when you've worked with enough cadavers. And meet enough fae from the other side of the spectrum.

[She squints. Trying to stay vague....some fae can be kind of... t o u c h y. (Read: bitchy.)]
I take it you're not the haunting sort?

If you're trying to suggest that I'm a poltergeist of some kind, no. I'm incredibly corporeal.

I think I'll go with them on these missions. Maybe I can stop some of us from getting killed... [He's seen too much death in his 18 years, if he can prevent it, hell yes.]

I'm not as good at it as some people from back in my world, but I think the variety probably makes up for it. [A beat.] I can heal a little, too.

I.. wouldn't use mage as the term, but in a matter of speaking, yes. I'm a doctor of both conventional medicine and magical healing.

Haha, well you can't always make assumptions, right?

And I do apologize for being so rude but I have to be sure about this kind of thing. Do you mind telling me what sort of creature you are? [Apologize and then call him a creature? WOW how nice Aileen.]
