[andhishat]

[The screen is black for a long moment, though the speakers seem to be working, passing along the soothing and lovely sound of someone banging their finger against a spot too near the microphone. Finally, though, the camera blooms to life, and give those watching a great look at the massive brown eye being shoved right up against the camera. A young woman’s voice is again too close to the mic]

Honestly, whoever enchanted this thing is a master artist. I can’t even detect a hint of magic around it, and yet it seems to be working just fine. I’m not sure why they made it look like a flat brick and not a proper crystal ball or mirror is beyond me.

[She sighs, pulling back slightly to reveal a young woman with slightly pointed ears and exotic features who looks anywhere between 15 and 23]

Oh wait, right, that would require someone to become a powerful archmage without going so utterly mad that they start running around creating whatever pops into their heads. [She holds it back further and shakes her head.] At least it isn’t an owlbear.

So, am I to take it there are those out there who can hear me?

Perhaps I should have cast an invisibility spell before I called, really thrown everyone off.

Curse it, that would have made sense. [Head tilt] Video? I feel everyone is speaking a different language.

Well, many things here are new so they probably had to make more words for it.

Can you really turn yourself invisible?

If they're going to make up words they should have the decency to provide us with a explanation before hand.

[She grins, then waves her hand and murmurs a few words of power, lights swirling around her, before suddenly she's gone in the blink of an eye, yet the camera remains in its same place]

That I can.

[Although he should have expected it, he was still shocked.]

How did you do that?

Magic.

[Obviously, that answered everything.]

What else can you do?

[Forgive her, she's a bit of a brat]

Stop time, create copies of myself, conjure fire and lightning, that sort of thing.

[hornedomen]

How can you do all this? Are you a witch?

[andhishat]

Not quite.

[She flickers back into view]

I'm a mage.

[hornedomen]

[He had seen people use magic in his world before but never had the opportunity to ask about it so this was fascinating to him.]

Is that like a priest? What do mages do?

[He added as an afterthought,] I’m Ico, by the way.

[andhishat]

Somewhat, and not at all. We both utilize magic to alter our surroundings, but a Priest's magic comes from their god, and is meant to strengthen or weaken, heal or wound, and deal with matters spiritual. It is in most ways more practical than mine.

A mage's magic is much more versatile, and comes from the mage's own talents and the arcane energies around them. While I acknowledge the Goddess of Magic is the source of much of the energies I use, I do not need to worship her to draw upon them.

[She smiles] Well met Ico.

[What she said did not correlate to the magic he had seen the priest use so he assumed that her world had a different sort of magic. However, it raised questions about how it worked in this place.]

What are arcane energies? Do you make it?

[andhishat]

They are energies woven into the very fabric of creation, a construct called the weave that exists it almost all living things. I get my magic from my connection to it.

[hornedomen]

[Ico was thinking and it distracted him from speaking. He tried to connect where Exsilium existed because it seemed as if everyone here came from a different time and place and yet some had better connections than others did. The subject had him thinking about it so deeply that he did not speak until much later.]

What is your name and where are you from?

[andhishat]

I am Reya, from Candlekeep on the Sword Coast, though my suspicion is that those names will mean little to you.

[hornedomen]

I never heard of it before, but please tell me more. What is your world called?

[andhishat]

My world is called Toril. It is a vast place, full of many different races and peoples, and much of it remains unexplored. There are wonders that can take your breath away, and terrifying creatures from your nightmares. It is a place of magic.

Mostly, however, it's home.
