Video

[There's lots of fiddling with the tablet, buttons pressed and messages made of seeming gibberish (though some are actually words from her own language that some may recognize) before the video is started. Except it's very blurry and sometimes fades out and comes back on. The important part though is that there's a small elf child on the other end and she looks like she's ready to cry.]

Nana! Ada!

[She then proceeds to throw the tablet and cry.]

[It's the faint hints of Sindarin that piqued Aragorn's interest as he eyes his tablet. The video was a little fuzzy and off angle, but he manages to catch a glimpse at the elven child upon the screen.]

Little one, what's wrong--

[Before he could finish, the girl tosses the tablet and starts wailing. Aragorn is left stunned and confused. She's clearly of Elvenkind but why is she here?]

[She doesn't pay attention to the thrown tablet and just cries for awhile until she's too tired to cry or her throat is sore. The tablet isn't too far away so Aragorn has a decent enough view of her as she curls up in a ball and pouts.]

[Aragorn decides to wait for a little while before trying to speak. The girl is distressed and clearly too distraught to speak with anyone now. It's best that he waits his time before trying to win the girl's attention again. So as the time passes, Aragorn sits and listens to the child's cries.

He couldn't quite understand why the Initiative would bring her here. She's merely a child, and far too young to be made into a soldier. It literally makes no sense for the Initiative recruit youngsters her age, yet they do so anyways.

This leaves a bitter taste upon his tongue.]

Le maer, henig?

[Her eyes move to the tablet and she rubs at them to clear what tears are left but she doesn't answer right away. Celebrían doesn't know him. And her parents wouldn't be happy if she talked to a stranger without them.

But they weren't here. Or at least, nowhere that she could find them and she couldn't go looking in case they came to find her. She can't ignore him though so the elfing just quietly shakes her head.]

Av-'osto, pinig.

[Knowing that the child must be terrified, Aragorn tries his best to seem as nonthreatening as possible. The last thing he wants is to add to the little elfling's terror.]

I'm a friend and not a foe. Where are your parents?

[He's a stranger, that's threatening enough for the time being. She knows that she can't stay suspicious forever and the only way to get answers or help was to ask questions or answer them.]

I don't know.

[And again, her eyes fill with tears but she just hiccups this time.]

[The face of a small grey-haired boy appears, if she can still see the screen.]

Don't cry.

[The good news is Nana is here! The bad news? As far as she's concerned, she's not anyone's Nana yet. But she can't exactly ignore an elf child crying for her parents.

It takes her a few moments to work out the tablet, but when she does she responds in a voice that should be familiar yet strange. It's harder than Galadriel's usual tone- she means to be gentle, but her temperament has not yet been softened and she has less experience with children. And, of course, her Sindarin is laced with a Noldorin accent that she hasn't learned to shake just yet.]

Calm yourself, little one. When did you see your parents last?

An ngell nîn...

[Once her tears begin to swell, Aragorn acts quickly to calm her.]

Please do not cry. I'm certain your parents are somewhere near.

[She can, a bit. She rubs at her eyes and sniffles, looking suspicious of the tablet and the boy. He's young though so he can't be too much of a threat to her, if there were any.]

I c-can't find them though.

Not long ago, we were reading.

[For the moment, her eyes are too full of tears that the image on the screen is blurry and it's still slanted and laying on the floor where she had thrown it. Sniffling and rubbing at her eyes, Celebrían tries to stop crying and manages to only let out a whimper before crying again. It'll take her a couple minutes more but she does finally still her tears and looks again at the tablet.

And look confused.]

N-nana?

[His face is completely emotionless.]

Who's "them"?

B-but I can't f-find them...

[She tries not to but she does start to quietly cry, tears flowing down her face and looking miserable.]

Do not fear.

[He speaks softly to the child in hopes of soothing her.]

I shall assist you however I may. What are their names?

My n-nana and ada. My parents.

Your parents. [He considers the words as he repeats them.]

I can't hear my mother here, either.

[Slowly:] Galadriel and Celeborn.

[It's hard not to be afraid. She's in a foreign, sunless place without her parents and no faces that she recognizes. She's taking to a man through a small magic window and she's just so confused.]

[Silence claims him once she said those names. If she's the daughter of the Lord and Lady of the Golden Woods, then doesn't that make her--]

Celebrían?

I'm not supposed to go far from them.

[Especially with how protective her father tends to be of her.]

[If she looked suspicious before, she looks moreso now. And more cautious.]

How do you know my name?

Will you get in trouble for being gone?

[He shakes his head in disbelief.]

This...cannot be.

[Just the other day, the she-elf was a full grown adult but now she's just a mere child. Uncertain what to say or do, Aragorn knew he cannot leave Celebrían to linger here alone. He must find the elfling and bring her to Elrond or Galadriel.

If sorcery is the root to his phenomenon, then it must be broken.]

I am a "friend" of your parents. I know of them well.

[And ~~Galadriel~~ Artanis is visibly taken aback. It's all she can manage not to drop the tablet.]

You must be mistaken, pinig. I am not even wed.

[But that face. Now that she's getting a proper look at the elfling, the resemblance is uncanny. And those eyes. They could be her eyes.]

What is your name?

I will, I think. I never left my parents unless I was doing my lessons. My ada is very protective of me.

[~~good luck~~ She picked up the tablet then and looked close, her face just an inch or two away from it, as she tried to figure out whether he looked familiar or not.]

I've never seen you before.
