[This is the first time Lena's made a post of her own, and she looks nervous. For any who haven't met her yet, she looks like your average teenage girl, albeit with one vivid green eye and one gold eye. Probably not too unusual around these parts, though.]

Hi. My name's Lena and--

[She hesitates, sighs, and looks away from the camera for a moment.]

And I was hoping I could get some help? I have this staff from the armory, and I'm not sure how to do stuff with it.

[So clear, this girl.]

I mean, I can do... lots of things. I have powers. I know that's not big news around here, but I was wondering how to use the staff with them, because back home I don't need anything to channel it. But this weapon's supposed to adapt to me? Or something. So I figured it might help.

[She gives the camera a self-deprecating smile.]

Sometimes my powers can be a little unpredictable. That's why I was wondering if anyone could help teach me how to use the staff? Please let me know.

[She's about to turn off the camera, but then she remembers something and the image shakes for a moment.]

Oh, and I don't mind using my powers to help out anybody who needs it. Back home I had to keep it hidden, so it's kind of nice to not have to do that here. Umm, I can control the elements, levitate stuff, create things... Just ask and I'll see if I can help.

[An interesting list of powers. He deduces pretty quickly from her remarks that she's not a human of his world, which means that her magic could well be beyond his understanding.

He doubts it, though.]

[As if to illustrate, he lightly taps the tall staff he's carrying against the sidewalk; a brief burst of light shines through the gnarls and cracks in the wood.]

That sounds similar to the weapon I hav - although my weapon is a whip, not a staff, so I don't know how much help I can be. But I can try all the same- we can figure it out together.

If You don't mind my asking - why did you have to hide your powers?

[She corrects him.]

Lena. And thank you. What's your name?

Oh, well, it's... complicated. There are two factions of my people, and some want to hurt Mortals. But the rest of us don't. We just want them to live their lives and we'll live ours. If they knew about us, well, they'd freak out. Our worlds aren't meant to overlap.

Yes, yes; I heard you. You can call me Adrasteius, or 'magister', or whatever else strikes your fancy.

Talk to me about your magic. Where does it come from? How do you usually perform it? And so on.

In my defense, I was pretty overwhelmed with the whole "being kidnapped" thing. That woman was telling me to pick something, and I didn't know there were other people here with magic powers yet, so I didn't want to tell her I didn't need a weapon, so I just grabbed something.

But now I guess I'm supposed to have a connection to it, or something? I don't know. It wouldn't hurt to practice. It'd give me something to do.

To be honest, I'm not as well versed about my magic as I could be. All I know is it's said my powers come from the Dark Fire, where all magic comes. There's Light and Dark magic, but I have both.

[She sounds a little awkward about that. It was an accident, really.]

Usually I just think stuff and it happens. Sometimes I don't even mean to. Other times, I have to concentrate and it takes a lot of effort. Some Casts require speaking it out loud, or needs a group to speak too.

_{( He smiles, then nods. He has a feeling that even if any of them had been in a better state of mind, they'd still have ended up with weapons. The Initiative seemed set on them. )}

[ Which she is totally fine with considering she has a lot of friends who were immortal. ]

Light and Dark ...

[Like anyone else, Adrasteius has only his only experiences to use as a basis for comparison when it comes to processing new concepts. In his own word, 'Light' magic refers to something holy, and 'Dark' magic as something that belongs to the shadow. Both schools can be used for good, both for evil, but the stereotypical expectations for each--Light as pure, Dark as corrupt--do often apply.]

What classifies a spell as one or the other? Type, or intent? Both? And which do you tend to prefer?

[It almost looks like she's handed the tablet to someone else, as it follows her to another part of the room. Really, she's just levitating and moving it. The staff is leaning against the wall. It's a plain, medium shade of wood with carved decoration at the top, like something out of Lord of the Rings.]

Here it is. I'm kind of worried that I might blow it up accidentally, which is why I was asking for help.

I'm a Caster. We're... I guess it's a silly thing to call humans. We're not immortal, we just live longer.

[Still really weird she can just say it like that. When she told someone for the first time, it was an epic struggle.]

It's hard to say. There's no rule book for it. A Light Caster can use a Cast to destroy, and a Dark Caster can use one to create. It's just that Dark Casters intend to destroy a lot more. It's in their nature.

[There's a slight edge of sadness to her voice as she says it.]

I don't prefer one over the other. Growing up, I always wanted to turn out Light, but then a bunch of stuff happened and now I know there's Dark in me too.

A caster... magic users back home are just called wizards, but we don't exactly live longer than anyone else. [ Excluding a certain Dragon Slayer, that is. ]

[He catches that sadness, and it gives him pause.]

I presume that favoring the 'Dark' is typically a bad thing, then.

The blowin' up would be something though, no? _{( And it might be okay afterwards, like his weapon. They are funny things. )}

Y'planning ta fight with it? Or just use it as a way ta channel your powers?

I know a couple of mages from my world who use staffs. I'd be willing to ask them if they're interested in working with someone.

As for how the weapon adapts to you, I can't tell you. I can only say that it does. I recently experienced this with my daggers. It was difficult to describe, and I imagine that such things will manifest differently with different people. The key is consistent use of the weapon.

Usually. Dark Casters tend to stop caring about anyone but themselves. But... that's not true for all of them.
