[The response takes a while. You really need Baldur or Loki to properly explain the Aesir and their place in the world. Thor, while he knows the Lore as well as he knows himself, is no wordsmith.]

The World Tree Yggdrasil is the heart of the universe, supporting time and space, as well as the Nine Realms of the world. The earth is but one of these realms. Asgard, my home, is the realm of the Aesir.

We were called Gods by the people of earth first, for they could not understand what we were. We all of us live long lives, for we eat the apples of Idunn, which grant immortality. It is our nature to be stronger and hardier than those of other realms, and to be gifted with powers that affect the world around us in ways others cannot.
