Yes... however, this sort of irreversible damage can only occur with deifacted nethicite, which only occurs naturally over an extended period of time. Should the Initiative find a way to manufacture nethicite--and such a thing is possible--the worst that could occur is that that nethicite shatters. The damage manfactured nethicite can do is the same potential damage glass has.
