Again, disastrous problems befell us. And again, not everyone came out of this unharmed. What more will it take to convince others to stand together and fight?

Our threat is not only just this UE, nor the Initiative who has shown its care for us if not recently then in the past on multiple occasions. What’s more, the threat has become infighting as well.

We are on our own.

[A bit of silence with a final AHEM.] With that, I’m announcing our third Defense Meeting that will be held this Saturday morning in the gardens, as last time.

We are a group that in time will grow stronger in defending not only ourselves but each other and that is our cause; to protect each other and fight as one during whatever circumstances, whether they be battles or something similar to what we’ve recently faced. This meeting we will be choosing our leaders amongst our own by nominations and by vote. But I encourage everyone to come and see for themselves the cause we are standing for.

And Barnaby Brooks, if you have a moment, I’d like to speak with you.

That's the idea. We've had two previous meetings for the purpose of getting to know those interested. Whether or not they proved worthwhile, however, will be decided in this coming meeting. [Hopefully...]

You won't convince everyone but I'm pretty sure that's no surprise at this point. There will always be people who would rather stand outside of any group and take no personal responsibility for what is happening around them.

Then... see for yourself at the meeting. Speak with others interested. I admit, it's unfair to those recently arrived but if the voting were to wait for those new to feel more comfortable, the votes would never happen. We've delayed long enough and it is starting to cost us.

The following meeting we'll be deciding if our chosen leaders really deserve the position they've been given. If not, we'll be choosing others to take their place and so on.

[It's rare that he fumbles anything these days, his clumsiness of youth long behind him. However, at the sound of that voice, he can't get his device in hand quickly enough. Twice he nearly drops it. Fortunately, his side isn't activated, his shortcoming remaining a private moment.

It's several long moments after she has stopped speaking before he feels fully comported. When he's ready to respond, he touches the icon, his expression composed if a little tight around the eyes.]

I hoped you'd return.

[If there's any outward indication anything is amiss, it's perhaps in the subdued volume of the simple statement. He pauses to consider what else he should say.]

How is protecting others ever superfluous in a time of war? From my understanding the police force only goes so far as to prevent infighting. This is also meant for battles and it is meant to include as many as it can. We can't be picky with who we think is capable of helping.

[She'll pause and tap her chin, debating on how to approach this properly...] Well, I have some questions first. This isn't exactly something I expect to happen overnight. And both of us are still organizing ourselves, correct? But I wished to bring the idea to mind at the very least, if you're interested.

Not with the UE or the Initiative, that's for sure. I'm not about you fight against some group I don't understand with some other group I don't understand in a battle that I didn't contribute to in any way. I don't care what kind of "help" either of them say they need.

[She says that bit so vehemently that it's more than clear how strong her emotions are in that regard.]

Other than attending the meetings and showing an interest themselves, some have helped in battles, whether within the clinic or on the battlefield itself. We are meant to defend and from what I've seen of some, that is what they are capable of. Others are less capable and need to be defended themselves. Others may be more seen as strategists and have previously organized and assisted in battles. But all have an interest in assisting however they can. Whether that interest is for selfish reasons or otherwise is yours to judge.
