V O I C E ★
[The voice on the other side of the tablet is young and vaguely male, and a little hesitant. Despite being here for months, this is is the first time he's actually tried posting to the network himself, and addressing a sizable, unseen audience, live, is somehow daunting. . . But he knows he needs to find someone, sooner rather than later, so:]
Er. Good afternoon! I'm wondering... if there is anyone here who is skilled with a sword, who would be willing to help train a beginner? I've a few months' practice already. And I don't require formal lessons, but I would appreciate a sparring partner. [ a pause, he clears his throat ]
But, if preferred, I could provide compensation for lessons...
[Though he'd rather not, it seems only prudent to offer. —And oh, right:]
Right, also, my sword is— a bit broad. And tall. And held with one hand? I don't know if that matters!
[He knows for a fact there are talented swordsmen here. One in particular comes to mind immediately, but he's not going to just ask him. And there's one or two others he could possibly wheedle lessons out of, but isn't it best to cast a wide net?
He's about to end the feed there, when he remembers one last thing: ]
And if it's all right, I have a question for those who use one of the Initiative's sentient weapons. ...How long did you train with it before it began to 'evolve'? Were the changes very drastic?
Thank you very much!

voice.
... And this person sounds really young. Are they superhuman? Or maybe just crazy?]
You... you wield a broadsword with one hand?
voice.
Well, yes-! Er, it's because I— [ rip my other arm off? ] have to wield it that way.
voice.
As it is, rather than taking that literally, he decides that this might be one of those extreme I must wield this sword with my one-armed strength or I can never become stronger situations.]
... I. I see.
You're very dedicated to your training. I'm a little envious.
voice.
he's not really sure what else one could assume, but now he can't tell whether he's being complimented on his perseverance despite his presumed disability (who would be envious of that, though?), or something. else? An awkward pause follows. Maybe he shouldn't overthink this.]
I- er. Thank you. But I don't think I'm more dedicated than anybody else...
voice.
Good job, Chrono. Socialization extraordinaire.]
It's a good thing-! Trust me, though, there are some lazy people I know... [He's not going to name names, but. Well.]
A-anyway, I'm not an expert or anything, but I at least know some of the basics of form, if that's any help. [Knowing them doesn't mean he ever bothers to use them, but let's not talk about that.]
voice.
-Oh! That would be helpful, actually! I—
don't know any basics of form at all.
[WHAT FORMS? Real dedicated swordsman over here.]
voice.
The only thing is, I don't have a sword-- with me, at least. If we're allowed to burrow from the armory, though, I could try to help...
There are probably better swordsmen around than me, though. [Though given the swordsmen he knows personally--statistically speaking--a lot of them are probably assholes, so good luck with that bro.]
voice.
But you definitely know more than me, right? I'm certain they have practice swords in the training facilities.
But - it's your choice, of course!
voice.
Is there some time you had in mind?
voice.
Whenever you would like. I'm in the gyms almost every morning.
voice.
Maybe sometime this week, then? Aside from chores, I'm not exactly busy, so...
[There's a short, halting pause, as if he's been silenced by some stark realization.]
Oh-! ... I'm sorry, I never told you who I am. [Socialization extraordinaire.] My name is Chrono.
voice.
That sounds good.
[OH RIGHT, introductions. That's a thing.]
Right, sorry-! My name is Allen Walker, but just Allen is fine. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Chrono!
voice.
Just from his voice, though, Chrono seems to relax now that he's successfully navigated away from offending anyone's burning shounen spirit or been told to take a hike or something.]
The pleasure is mine.
[And because Allen is asking questions he himself has been wondering (how the hell does a weapon evolve, anyway), he asks a question borne of logical assumption;] Did you just arrive here?
voice.
[It's just that the different ways the weapons might evolve has only recently become a lot more relevant to his interests.]
voice.
[... Maybe it would be safer if he stopped making assumptions about things. Just. You know. In general.]
... This is the first time you've looked into sword basics? Did you switch?
voice.
voice.
No, you know what, we're not going to think too hard about any of this.]
... It might be a good idea to start with a regular sword, instead of a broad one. At least until you have some muscle memory.
voice.
Mm, I can practice with something smaller as I'm learning. [ Because he's pretty sure there isn't a practice sword large enough. ] What sort do you use, Chrono?
voice.
I probably need a sword that's a... special length... [A Very Vertically Challenged People's Sword. He can manage a full-sized one just fine, but it's not ideal, since it's practically as tall as he is...]
I'd meant to go check what sizes the armory has, actually.
voice.
Um! I'm certain the Initiative has a variety of sizes! The armory's collection is pretty extensive.
voice.
Out of curiosity, how tall are you? Do you know?
voice.
[...He's been keeping track. On a wall in his apartment, with a pencil.]
Why, how tall are you?
voice.
Still, 5'7"? But this guy doesn't sound any older than 13 or 14, that isn't fair at all...]
... Four foot nine.
voice.
ADULT MAN ok no i can't even joke]
Ah. [W o w. The next question just sort of slips out,] How old are you?
voice.
... Twelve.
