001 | (accidental) voice

[There's the sounds of a scuffle---with a girl's voice cursing and complaining about 'stupid idiots, I'm not handing over my marques or whatever the money here's called! I told that little girl I'd buy her some bread!' ---when the tablet's voice feed suddenly clicks on:]

Okay, now let me get this straight. We're supposed to be soldiers, off fighting this war, right? So tell me this---

[The girl speaking quickly grunts as she dodges the thugs' attacks. The sounds of her footsteps make a scurrying noise as if she quickly backpedaled away. Afterward, she takes a deep, irritated breath.]

---isn't part of our job supposed to be keeping the peace? Why are there still moron thugs running around?

[After she poses this inquiry, there's the sound of electricity cracking, and the tablet suddenly shuts off.]

Yeah, the guy with the glasses got that point across to me in quite a bit of detail, thanks.

Look, I got that. I'm just saying we have to at least give the natives some ground support when we can, okay? I'm not saying we should drop everything and switch gears.

A city this size with an outlook this brutal and a history this depressing is never going to anything less than a shithole.

Honestly, I'm surprised at how well it's doing, considering.

Trying to fix Exsilium is a waste of time.

[railgunning]

Depressing's a good word for it. Probably doesn't help that about ninety percent of it is destroyed to begin with...

[She sighs, sucking her teeth somewhat. She did read some of that history, and boy, did it piss her off.]

I think the only thing keeping these people going is how angry they are, and the fact that we're all here...in the case of the natives, though, I think they just wanna tell the United Earth one last 'screw you' before things finally do go down the drain. Not that I blame them. I'd wanna go down fighting, too.

[A beat.]

Fixing things is for people who actually want to spend the time and effort---things that I'm pretty sure none of us really have anymore after all the crap that's happened here. Kicking the United Earth's ass is the best bet, but we still need a place to live in, so keeping stuff at least a little bit under control in terms of the natives is something to think about, I'd say.

voice;

[sweetling]

I get you, not like I'm going out to antagonize 'em on purpose or anything, but you're not gonna get a whole lot of would-be soldiers taking any shit.

Just hope they learn to keep it under wraps before someone with less of a conscience and a lot more firepower gets harassed.

[railgunning]

....Yeah.

[Hitting kinda close to home with the 'firepower' bit; while she definitely has a conscience, her temper tends to override that.]

That would be bad, wouldn't it? All it'd do is just make things worse. Then we'd really be no different from the UE to them.

I think we already are no different, at least from some perspectives.
