Sokka? [FOND COMMS MEMORIES RUN THROUGH HER MIND...] A gun is my weapon here, and it was new to me when I first arrived. [Though only as a weapon of hers, not outright as a concept. She's a little surprised by Sokka's subtle appearance of ignorance in this regard.]
I could. I'm actually on break from training right now... I'm by the ranged weapons section, if you know where that is it won't be too hard for us to find each other.
[ Sokka might be taken aback, but he's seen her on the network. Plus there are all kinds of strange people here. He waves in return and moves towards her past a few other people engaged in their own training. ]
[She's used to being considered strange by now; she doesn't let it stop her from showing fangs as she smiles at him.]
Yeah. So, have you acquired a gun in advance or will you be borrowing mine? If you do need to get your own in the future it isn't so hard to get one from the armory, sentient or not.
Okay... [She takes out hers, holding the barrel in both hands: A sawed-off shotgun.] We'll use this, then. Here. [Leaning her head to indicate the direction (horns may be weird to humans, but they're so handy!) she leads their way to a target practice area.]
[Kanaya pauses for a moment before deciding to unload her gun, gathering the ammunition in the palm of her other hand. It looks like she hasn't made that particular motion a whole lot.]
Okay. These are bullets. [She hands the empty gun over to him.] Without those that's about as dangerous as a hammer.
Yes. [...less advanced technological background, huh? She's heard that can happen but doesn't have very much firsthand experience with it.] Or... darts. The thing is that compared to an average bow these can be fired much more quickly. [She casually lobs one at her own forehead to demonstrate.] At low speeds one of these could easily bruise as it is. But much faster...
I'm assuming that's part of what you've heard about these weapons.
[...this is the part where Kanaya does not admit that her understanding of these tools is much more external than internal. She lifts up the (empty) gun and points at the trigger.]
When you pull on this, it triggers the burst of gunpowder that propels the shot forward.
Ah ha! So it does use a contained explosion of gases! Like a steam engine! Cool! And it uses the tube thing to contain the force and push it in one direction. Kinda like an engine.
...Yeah. [What is a steam engine? She's heard the term engine before but not steam in conjunction with it... or has she? Maybe once during the Wild Wild West mission...]
There's gunpowder in it somewhere. That's ignited when the trigger is pulled. The tube is referred to as the barrel for whatever reason.
You put them into the chamber. [NO TWO DIAGRAMS SHOWED THE SAME CHAMBER LOCATION SO SHE PUTS JUST ONE INTO AN APPROPRIATE CHAMBER THROUGH APPROPRIATE MEANS.
But then she points at the safety.] This is the safety, though - you have to turn it off to fire the gun. That's why they call it the safety, because afterwards it's unsafe.
It's all good. If you have any questions, feel free to pp or IM me, I actually know a bit about guns
There are many different situations where it could backfire - even when not wielded, carrying it on your person has a risk. That said, you should always act as if the gun is loaded and unsafe.

Do you think you could show me how to use one?

See you there?

[And should Sokka enter the appropriate hallways he will immediately observe that an alien girl has noticed him and is waving in his direction.]

Hey! Kanaya, right?

I haven't picked one up yet. I don't really know what I should be looking for in one in order for it to be a good fit, you know?

Alright. You're gonna have to start me off at the verrrry beginning here.
[Action] If I get anything about firearms wrong I am sorry ;___;
Okay. These are bullets. [She hands the empty gun over to him.] Without those that's about as dangerous as a hammer.
[Action] No worries~
Right. Ammunition. Like a bow or a catapult or something.
[Action]
I'm assuming that's part of what you've heard about these weapons.

[ He hefts the cartridge again. ]
What propels them? I mean, from what I saw it looks like some sort of explosion or something. 'Cause I don't see any bowstrings. Heh.

When you pull on this, it triggers the burst of gunpowder that propels the shot forward.

[ He seems overjoyed by this revelation. ]

So how do you load it?
[ He's just full of questions. ]
DON'T EVER TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS haphazardly aggregated from wikihow pages for multiple weapons...

Right. Don't want it to get shot at the wrong target.
