[ If the Initiative ever wanted proof of how well they expanded their network's range, this would be it.

Normally Caesar isn't prone to using video, but this will be one of his few exceptions. He's sitting in a large metal chair, one with all sorts of technical whatzits and doodads that he'll never ever fully understand on his own attached. For those more future-inclined, it looks an awful lot like the captain's chair of, say, a spaceship's bridge. He waits a few beats until he's sure the tablet, either held by someone else or propped up on something across from him, is broadcasting. ]

Good evening, Exsilium.

If someone would be kind enough to go wake the Initiative up for us and let them know we have something large, space-faring, and very high up above the island right now that we'd like to bargain with them for, that would be really great.

Caesar's basically right, though he's totally leaving out how i>totally awesome it is to be floating above the whole entire planet!

Isn't technology amazing! Basically, just like cars, you can make things that can fly, too. Mostly planes! Different species and different times on Earth and other worlds with people on them invent all kinds of spacecraft. Now Exsilium has one too!

( She grins. )

Wanna see it sometime, after we've landed?

[You are making to leap ahead of her with the mention of even cars, dearest Collette, but Lenalee is valiant and nods and smiles all the same.]

It does sound amazing.

( But cars drive on the streets, Lenalee, there's no way to miss those, is there? Collette is not entirely savvy to what people do and don't get with technology. )

It really is! I mean, you've been in a car before, right? Or at least a boat? On the ocean?

[But trying to imagine one flying, as it is her closest approximation to a spaceship... it's overwhelming, you realise. Like. By a lot.]

I've been on a ship. [On the ocean. She's been in it, too, and watched the ship go down to stay there.] A while ago.

Spaceships are like ships with tops that can sail the air, not just the sea!

... Trust me, it makes that whole sea-sick thing go completely away, as long as you can handle the stomach sinking feeling as you take off!

[She smiles, and it is a bright (and perhaps knowing) thing.] I can handle it.

Then we'll definitely take you up, when we next can!

Is it really so simple as that?

Maybe not that simple, but at heart, it will be.

[Whose heart, she wonders, and smiles again.]

So long as I'm not expected to fly it.

( She laughs, shaking her head. )

I don't think the actual pilots would let any of us even try!

Hmm? ( She quirks up her eyebrows, then smiles, expression neutralizing past that grin. ) Once we knew what it was, yeah. Considering the stakes and everything.

[Lenalee knows better than most the stakes of leaving a transport vessel for the enemy to use- unfortunately, she knows, too, what comes of stealing it. Often something bigger, stronger, and angrier.]

What if the Initiative refuses your terms?

Then we figure out how to make them irresistible. But really, we can figure out how to work it. Between all of us, I know we can.

It would be nice if that were true. [ out-negotiating a military organisation, how daring of them ] I hope it's true.

Then we'll hope together. Even reality caves to hope some of the time.

You're right. It's good to stay positive.

It's what I prefer, at least. What about you?

Mm, I try to be whenever I can afford to be. [It had not been often, at home. Not of late. But they had all persevered through it and kept their smiles.] "Helpless feelings can lead you to tragedy"..., or something like that.

Sounds like the self-fulfilling prophecy! Except the worst, and all you'll get is the worst.

[Thoughtfully:] Sometimes the worst is all the world has to give. But that doesn't really matter, right now. Just be careful with how you go about these negotiations, all right?
