You'd think this whole being abducted thing would freak me out a whole lot more... but you know what? Not that bad. [Maya's voice sounds amused.] The whole thing could have been a lot more unpleasant. Uh, aside from all the craziness before. I guess I'm just trying not to look a gift horse in the mouth until I'm a little better adjusted, you know?

So... [There's a small stretch of silence because wow introducing yourself to a giant group of strangers is still kind of awkward.] I'm Maya, and apparently someone thought you all needed the assistance of a Siren. ...Hi.

[And then quieter because she feels dumb enough already:] Knowing what I already know, it's probably kind of a stretch to ask if anyone here is familiar with a planet called Pandora. So I won't.

[Here comes a nosey little kid, from the looks of it.]

...What is a siren? Assuming you don't mean a warning sound.

If I had known so many people would get the two confused I probably would have been clearer. [Despite the confusion, her expression is still amused.] I'm still trying to figure that out, to be honest. The condensed version is that we're a group of magic using women with crazy tattoos. [Sort... of.] I haven't met a single soul yet that can tell me much more than that.

[Hmm.]

So you don't really know what you are?

[She doesn't say this in an accusatory or derogatory way, mostly she is just curious.]

Can't say that I do. There aren't many of us around so we can't exactly sit around and share stories with one another. I was actually in the middle of tracking down answers when I ended up here.

Does it bother you? Not knowing?

[Her lips form a thin line while she considers her response.] Not all the time. [Except yeah, all the time.]

For the longest time I knew exactly what I was.

Now...

For what it's worth, I think I can relate.

I am hoping I will get used to it. It doesn't seem it will be getting any better.

It might get easier in time, you never really know. Until then, find a good book to distract yourself with. Maybe take up a hobby. Sometimes it helps.

[She hesitates, looking...almost lost.]

I...have never had a hobby.

Uh, [Maya's eyebrows knit together] Well, I'm not exactly the authority on how to have a grand old time but I'm sure it can't be too hard for me to throw a few ideas at you. Is there anything you're interested in? Good at singing or dancing? Acting? [Uh... What else?] Tea parties? You could always start a collection of something.

[She has to think about it for a moment. Did she do anything like that when she was a child? A real child, not the time-stuck one she was now?]

...I am only trained for information gathering now. I don't...really like anything.

[She almost sounds confused as she says because she knows it's not normal.]

That's a new one for me, I have to admit. Maybe this could be your big chance to go out and find something you like then. As far as I know, it seems like we're going to be here for a while.

My situation seems to be relatively unique here.

And I suppose. I would not really know where to start.

That so? Huh. You could always start small. Maybe you're better at writing poetry than I am.

[Congratulations, Maya, you managed to genuinely stun Shelke, and that's hard to do! It takes her a few seconds to do anything other than stare.]

I...uh. I really don't think so.

I don't know. You haven't read my poetry. It's pretty shabby. [And her attempts at joking are also pretty shabby.] Anyway, chin up. You'll find something eventually.

[Shelke does actually smile very faintly at that terrible joke.]

...Can work be a hobby?

[She's relieved.] I'd be a hypocrite if I said "no".

So, you know my name, but I never got yours.

I am Shelke. [She seems to cut off abruptly at the end of her name, mostly because she actually has to remind herself that her title doesn't matter anymore.]

Well Shelke, I'm rooting for you. Maybe we'll both find what we're looking for or something.
